NWP and MAC log pins

I'm about to spin some boards using the CC3200MOD. I'm using GPIO5 as an analog input pin and GPIO7 as RTS for one of my UARTS. I can't move them elsewhere, I'm using almost every pin. I've just noticed that on the Launchpad, those pins are connected to a separate header with NWP log and MAC log. That's the only information I can find on those pins, nothing about how to read them, or how they're connected. Are these pins connected directly to the NWP, and hence I can't use them as GPIOs? If not, how are they enabled for their stated purposes, and how do I read them when they are?

These pins have a mode where the NWP and MAC logs (UART TX only) can be made available for debugging certain issues. This is not mandatory and is not required for 99% of the problems. They can be used to collect logs in case the board is not able to connect to AP. These logs need to be sent to TI for analysis. You can use these pins as GPIO or any other function you may have.

How do we turn them on if we want to view those logs?

By default these lines would have the log outputs unless you change the pin-mux to Mode-0. Mode-1 is the default and all the logs should come out on these pins.

So the boot state could be driven low instead of high impedance?

The boot state would be driven high. One more point to note that the MAC log is blocked internally and is not available for users.

So when you said "You can use these pins as GPIO or any other function you may have" you meant "any other function that won't explode if driven high"

I meant that you can use these pins as the log output or as GPIO output or input depending upon your application. When I said that these pins are configured by default to sent out the logs, this means that the pin mux configuration is set to Mode-1. You would still need to go and enable the output buffer on each of these pins to be actually able to see the signal. If you do not enable the OUTPUT, the pins would be Hi-Z so that there is no contention during boot.

Apparently, since I can't get a straight answer out of you. What you actually said was "the boot state would be driven high", in response to me saying "the boot state could be driven low instead of high impedance". Which is exactly the opposite of your last attempt at an answer.

Perhaps there's something in one of the example files that clearly answers these simple questions, and doesn't take a month to do it.

Sorry for the confusion. Let me try to make it clear.
Step-1 : Pin Mux : The CC3200 device when it boots-up, by default all the GPIOs are set to mode-1 which in this case would be logger output for this pin.
Step-2 : Output Enable : On top of that you would need to go an enable the output buffers to be actually able to send this data to the pin.
The first step is the muxing and the second step is the enabling of output buffers.
If you perform step 2, then the output would be HIGH after boot.
If you do not perform step-2 then the outputs would be Hi-Z.
