Flashing the CC3200 with USB/FTDI, but without jumpers or buttons

Hi,

For our product, I am trying to find a solution to be able to flash the CC3200 through a USB cable ONLY, without the need to set jumpers or press buttons manually on the board. - For this, I am thinking about a way to connect the RTS / DTR signals coming from the virtual COM port of the FTDI chip to SOP2 / RST of the CC3200.

Unfortunately, Uniflash tool does not allow any control on the RTS / DTR pins of the serial port.

Is there any way this can be solved?

In a recent post, I found part of the answer to my post:

"The uni-flash looks for the exact same usb device with the same descriptor flashed in the EEPROM. So you would have to use the FT2232D device.

Alternately you could use the command line utility of the uni-flash to program the device. you can insert your own commands in between to Reset the device."

We are using a more basic FTDI on our board (FT231XQ ), which comes at a fraction of the cost of the FT2232D. - Could you please elaborate on how the uni-flash command line utility can be used to reset the CC3200 device? - Ideally, the RTS and DTR lines of the COM port could be toggled to reset the CC3200 and to set the SOP2 line, but I don't see any such command on the wiki with the command line syntax.

You would need to completely re-do the un-flash tool to use the new FTDI device. you can get some more info below

You may need to create your own exe to toggle the lines using the FT231, then insert these in a batch file so that you could reset the device in between the un-flash command lines.

If I get it right, we could slightly modify the python scripts provided with the CC3100_CC3200_Embedded_Programming_1.0.0 to toggle the RTS/DTR lines when the reset is requested, correct?

Yes, that's correct. you could modify the scripts to make it work with your programmer.
