CC3200 launchpad is not operating via battery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

I'm providing 3.3V to cc3200 as mentioned in the manaul from 2 AA size batteries. I face a problem, whenever a sl_start() called, it never returns and a power on reset happened continuously. I'm trying to put cc3200 in ap mode. When I give power from USB it works fine. Please tell me what is problem.

  • Hi Amit,

Did you remove J13 as mentioned at the "CC3200 Launchpad Hardware Users Guide" doc?

  • yes I removed that, but not working. Green LED blinks continuously. On debug I found that a power on reset happened whenever sl_start() called.
  • This is because the external AA battery is not providing enough current needed by the device to perform the calibration cycle. Note that the device can draw upto 400mA during the start-up. If the supply drops below 2.1V during this, the chip will get RESET and the cycle continues infinitely. Ensure that the batteries are new, the contacts are clean and the connecting wires are at least 22AWG and short (< 15 cm).
Use alkaline batteries with higher peak current such as copper top from Duracell. Do not use Lechlanche dry cells (Zinc carbon) as these have high internal resistance.
