Does the new WiFi provisioning (SimpleLink Wi-Fi Starter Pro) work with WEP-HEX (10 and 26 char) password?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

it is hinted at online

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC31xx_Programmers_Guide

that the only way to get WEP-HEX (10 and 26 char passwords/keys) to work with CC3200 via HTTP setup was to switch to User Defined tokens and then to save the profile details outside of the NWP http server in your app SW with a direct simplelink API call.

Does the new SimpleLink Wi-Fi Starter Pro release that uses a mobile app and an new embedded provisioning library work around the WEP-HEX issue somehow ?

And since I am asking does it support of 63 character WPA-ASCII passwords.

  • Richard, There has been no change w.r.t this feature - CC3x00 supports only WEP open using ASCII pre shared key however a small code can be used to support Hex format.

  • well not really a 'small' code but yes there is a complicated workaround involving bypassing the NWP http server before saving the WiFi profile - if you want to handle 'all possible' WEP-HEX keys anyway.

And yes, no one SHOULD be using WEP for WiFi security anymore but there are a lot of old WiFI setups still around it seems that the user has no clue how to change to WPA.
