CC3100mod V1.9.1 compliance strategy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100, CC3100MOD

Hi,

We are using CC3100 mod in a design which will be mostly released by end of this year. Wemay have to certify the device per V1.9.1. Current compliance of CC3100is V1.8.1. So I have following questions

1. Whether we can certify the device per V1.9.1 even if CC3100 is certified for V1.8.1 ?

2. What is TI's strategy on certification. Will it be upgraded to V1.9.1, if so by when?

3. Is there any risk of not meeting V1.9.1 ?

Thank you and looking forward for a quick response .

Thanks

JJ

  • Hi JJ,

My responses to your questions below:

    1. Whether we can certify the device per V1.9.1 even if CC3100is certified for V1.8.1 ?  Yes, you can certify for V1.9.1 on your own board. There is no limitation on you to do this. You can leverage our certification and that will give you a good idea that you will not have an issue when you go for certification. V1.8.1 is actually more stringent that V1.9.1 so there will be no issue in passing for V1.9.1.

    2. What is TI's strategy on certification. Will it be upgraded to V1.9.1, if so by when? Yes this is in progress. We will post the latest certification when available. Expect this to be around November as that is the cut off month for going to V1.9.1.

    3. Is there any risk of not meeting V1.9.1 ? No risk, V1.8.1 is more stringent, so V.1.9.1 will be met.

    Thanks,

    Riz

  • Hi Riz,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Our design is under class 2 permissive changes (C2PC). Could you please guide me how to obtain FCC ID transfer from TI to us as part of FCC certification needs.

    Thanks

    JJ

  • Hi Jimmy,

Not sure if you still required this information but you can find information on transfer of ID at:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC31xx_&_CC32xx_Radio_Certifications under Using TI's certificates. Within there is a link to a form that needs to be filled out and it will automatically be sent to the appropriate people at TI to begin the transfer of ID process. the link for the form is:

    www.ti.com/.../accesseventaction.tsp

I will go ahead and close the thread.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi,

As per your feedback on JULY 11 2016, please let us know the status of v1.9.1 Certification for CC3100MODULE?

    Regards,

    Harish.

  • Hi Harish,

We should have the updated Doc on-line by the end of this week.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi Harish,

the updated DoC is now on-line. I will go ahead and close this thread.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi,

Where I can find this updated documentation? At page processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC31xx_&_CC32xx_Radio_Certifications are still old test reports. Only declaration of conformity was updated.

... also at this wiki are still old information about old R&TTE directive.

  • Hi

We are facing a new challenge in the final stage of certification because of some unreasonable statement mentioned in the FCC grant notes.

" The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of atleast 20cm from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter" (TCB)

Ours is a hand held device with ( 9 X 9 X 2.5 Cm). From the above statement it is unlikely to use this module if size is less than (40 X40 X 40 Cm) which need not be a portable device. Because of this strange requirement we are not able to reuse the FCC ID even with TI authorisation for change in ID .

Please let us know if there is a way to come out of this situation. We feel like it is a trap as we could not see any such requirements in data sheet.

    Thanks
    Jimmy Joseph

  • Hi Jimmy,

I am sorry to hear that you are having this certification issue. The TCB is correct, our Modular certification was only done assuming that the module will be used 20cm from all persons. this was how the FCC certification was performed. You are also correct that this statement is not in our data sheet and I will discuss with our team about adding this statement.

As far as what can be done, it does not mean you cannot use our radio in your application, however it will most likely require additional testing of the radio by the FCC. The only option may be for the FCC to determine what additional testing will be required based on less than 20cm distance from the body. I am not sure what this will entail, but they should be able to guide you in this.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi Riz,

As per existing CC3100 Module certification V1.9.1  is certified under Directive 1999/5/EC and it is going to expire in 13 JUNE 2017.

The following statement is written in below link.

    ec.europa.eu/.../rtte_en

    - According to Article 48 of the Directive 2014/53/EU, a transitional period between Directive 1999/5/EC and Directive 2014/53/EU has been granted, making Directive 1999/5/EC applicable at the choice of the economic operator until 12 June 2017.

As per above statement what is the next plan of TI to complete Directive 2014/53/EU (RED Directive)?

We need to release our product by MARCH 31 2017 and need your immediate response on Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) certification plan for CC3100MODULE.

    Regards,

    Harish.

  • Rizwan,

Could you please reply to this one. We would need the updated 1.9.1 Test report for the CC3100MOD as well.

    Thanks in advance,

    Zainul.
