WL1835MOD: Maximum conducted output power testing for Wi-FI

Hi,

The calibrator wiki page states that the start_tx will send continuous transmission at 50% duty cycle. But the FCC regulations require atleast 98% duty cycle to do conducted power measurements.

How was this handled during the FCC certification of the module ?

Also I am using a spectrum analyzer (RSA306 with RBW, VBW limit of 20MHz) and dont have a power meter, Can you please suggest appropriate RBW and VBW settings for measuring 802.11b/g/n signals.

Also how to compoensate if my spectrum analyzer's bandwidth is not comparable to signal bandwidth ?

Hi Ganesh,

If the lab is using 50% duty cycle in continuous mode, then it is simply means that for the measured output power you will need to add 3dB. This should be something that the certification lab can account for. The other option is a PC based solution using RTTT. This tool will allow you to set higher duty cycle rates. The tool can be downloads as part of the wireless tools suite at: www.ti.com/.../WILINK-BT_WIFI-WIRELESS_TOOLS

In terms of compensation due to the spectrum analyzer and the appropriate RBW an VBW this depends on the tests. You need to consult with the regulator test house on the appropriate setting as they are based on the FCC-247 standards. Each measurement has a required setting to make the measurement valid. The test house you are using for certification can guide you in these settings. You can also refer to or test report and can find the RBW and VBW setting for the test in the plot results or in parts of the text explaining the set up.
