Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1835MOD

I have a raymarine wi-fish with build in a : wl1835mod 8b module.

The wifi range  is to smale for what I want to do with it.

Is there may be an external antenna to be connected so you can increase the wifi range

Wifi range up to +/- 200 meters outside.

I hope someone can explain to me where and how I can attach an external antenna on the wl1835mod 8b

I have see the UFL conectoren but i dont if you conect a wifi 2.4ghz antenna on the UFL connector that tje wifi range bigger is

  • Hi Mic,

The 200 meter range does not look feasible for WiFi. One of our WL18xx hardware experts will get back to you regarding rest of your queries. Thanks.

  • Hi Mic,

If you want to increase the range, and you are using the released .INI file for WL1835mod then you need to choose an antenna with a higher dBi gain. our WL1835MODCOM board has an output U.FL connector that you can use to connect and external antenna if you need. There are a few things you do need to consider:

    1) Where will this product be used? There are output power regulatory rules for different regions. US and Canada have a higher output power limit then Europe and Japan. So adding an higher gain antenna can be problematic as we are already close to the limit for Europe and Japan with the chip antenna
    2) If you change the antenna from our given list (processors.wiki.ti.com/.../WL18xxMOD_Regulatory_Product_Certification) then you will need to perform regulatory certification on your own and cannot re-use our certification.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    Riz
