WL1837MOD: BLE 4.2 support

Hi,

I was looking for a Wi-Fi + BLE4.2 solution and stumbled upon WL1837MOD. Initially I gave up on the module as the description states "Bluetooth 4.1 Compliance and CSA2 Support", however shortly after I have ran into TI Bluetooth 4.2 Stack Add-On link.

In the add-on description it is stated that it "Supports Bluetooth Core Specification v4.2" and it is intended for WL1837MOD. This is slightly confusing, could you please shed some light on it?

Ideally I am looking for FCC, CE certified Wi-Fi + BLE4.2 module, if WL1837OD does not support this is there another TI solution that does?

    Hi Nenad,

    Some of the Bluetooth 4.2 features (like LE secure connections and LE ping etc.) were added to the WL183x support through the TI Bluetooth 4.2 Stack add-on release that you referenced above. Also, the WL1837MOD is 4.2 certified as well : www.bluetooth.org/.../QLI_viewQDL.cfm

    The WL1837MOD is also FCC and CE certified.

    From your description above, it looks like the WL1837MOD fits the requirements. Are you looking for a specific BLE4.2 feature in your end product/use-case? Or the BT 4.2 certification stamp is all that is required?

    Indeed I am looking for a specific BLE4.2 feature, namely LE Data Packet Lenght Extension, as higher data throughputs are needed for the application.LE secure connections and LE Privacy are also nice to have. Is there a list of supported BLE4.2 features of the noted add-on?

    Essentially, radio I am looking for should communicate with CC2650 via BLE4.2 at data rates >200 kbps (plus Wi-Fi support I mentioned in previous post), and preferably the solution would come for TI. I can imagine this is a very specific requirement, nevertheless this is the situation.
