Difference between CC3120MOD and CC3120

I am working on a project using TM4C1294NCPDT.I need to add WIFI in my project.
When I was looking for a WIFI Booster Pack. I found 2 of them, which suits me.
1) SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® CC3120MOD Wireless Network processor BoosterPack™ Plug-in Module.
2) SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® CC3120 Wireless Network Processor BoosterPack™ Plug-In Module.

What is the difference between these 2 and Are they compatible with EK-TM4C1294XL?

    The module contains the CC3120 QFN and the clocks. it is also certified and the certification can be reused by customers.

    CC3120MOD cotains the basic necessary circuit for CC3120, it gives you the advantage of using TI's certification for the Wireless Network Processor basically "With Ability to Request Certificate Transfer for Wi-Fi Alliance Members" with 32Mbit SFLASH


    If you want to leverage certification and don't require more than 32Mbit SFLASH, go with CC3120MOD.

    You mentioned that

    2. The user's system must be based on a Texas Instruments certified product

    To get Wi-Fi Alliance Certification to a my product both points (1&2) have to be satisfied or one of them  ?
    Our company is not a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance.

    I understood that CC3120MOD contains the basic necessary circuit for CC3120 (clocks, 32Mbit SFLASH and some passives).
    What is the difference between buying CC3120MOD and making my own module(CC3120 + other components)?
    I know buying CC3120MOD is an easy task than making my own module.But I would like to know the drawbacks/difficulties in making my own module.
    FYI: This is the 1st time I am working with wifi and I am not an expert in hardware design.
    I always depend on development boards and booster pack schematics to make my own product schematics.

    Yes you have to satisfy both requirements.

    Since you mentioned first time, I will recomment going with CC3120MOD and when you get comfortable with it and later if you might require more flash or want to build your own custom and dont mind going through the certification which you will require eventually for your product.
    There's no as such difference between building custom and getting a mod module.
    TI provides the hardware design guide for building your own custom board. Your hardware designer just need to follow it meticulously, and due to manufacturing issues some problem always arises it's a bit daunting task, getting everything right especially if you are like me are not an hardware expert.

    Going with CC3120MOD makes it easier for certification of your product.

    Regarding SFLASH if your application is not that complex or huge and OTA is not something you might need or your application is small enough then you would be able to even implement OTA with 32Mbit SFLASH.
