CC3100: CC3100 Transciever mode

Hello TI Experts,

 

I have got some questions about the transceiver mode of CC3100.

Would you please answer these questions?

 

(1) It seems that it is written in somewhere that the transceiver mode is used for the wireless testing.

Is it just for test usage or is it possible to always use this mode with an actual product ?

 

(2) Can Long Sleep Interval be used in the transceiver mode?

Our customer is targeting more than 10 years product life.

 

(3) In case that the transceiver mode is used, and TCP/IP stack and MAC layer is held in host CPU side, do you have any working example and is it possible to provide any sample code?

 

(4) Our customer's implementation image is like a following figure.

Is it possible to provide and customize the "firmware" block?

    Hi,

    Just a quick answer:

    1. This is not a problem you can use transceiver mode in normal product.

    2. In this case makes sense disable power suplay for and enable it only when you needed communicate.

    3. If you want use transceiver mode and TCP/IP stack in your MCU, you will also need implement IEEE 802.11 inside your MCU (WiFi security, connection mechanism with AP, etc.). Implementation of IEEE 802.11 inside your MCU is not easy thing.

    4. You cannot customize firmware inside CC3100/CC3120 device. But you can select CC3200/CC3220 and write firmware into MCU integrated inside the chip (Cortex-M4 MCU inside CC3200).
