Linux/CC3120MOD: CC3120 and CC3220 in AP mode

Part Number: CC3120MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3120

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

CC3120 Product description says its AP can support upto 4 stations. Does that mean it can support only 4 simultaneous clients in AP mode?

Can i get the number of clients CC3120 and CC3220 can support in AP mode? I need a solution to support atleast 5-10 clients.

Also do these support Linux?

Regards,

Nidhi lodha

  • Hi,

Yes, CC3120/CC3220 supports up to 4 clients in AP mode. 5-10 clients simultaneously connected in AP mode is not supported by CC3120/CC3220.If you need communicate with 10 nodes, you should use CC3120/CC3220 in STA mode and connect it to your infrastructure access point.

Development environment (CCS, SDK) can be used in Lunix, but CC3220 cannot run Linux, because it is small MCU (Cortex-M4). Maybe uClinux can be ported to CC3220, but I think it is not officially supported by uLinux developers.

  • Hello,

Yes, when it acts as an AP, it can support up to 4 clients maximum (and simultaneously).

    It cannot support more.

Also, Linux is not supported on the SDK but at least for cc3120 it is not relevant as you have an external processor that connects to it and you can use Linux on this processor.
