Linux/WL1837MOD: 802.11s: requred hardware and software

Part Number: WL1837MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WILINK8-WIFI-NLCP,

Tool/software: Linux

Team,

my customer wants to make sure that his hardware/software combination supports 802.11s mesh.

The product page does not mention 802.11s, but this app note does. It says the required software can be found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/wilink8-wifi-nlcp (WILINK8-WIFI-NLCP for Linux with WiFi Mesh).
The release notes say 802.11s is supported from version R8.7.

Am I right that only the correct software version is needed for 802.11s with WL1837MOD?

Linux Kernel 4.1 includes WiLink8 R8.5.
My customer uses Kernel 4.9.40. Is R8.7 included here?
If not, which Kernel does?

If I understand correct, only the WiLink package is needed to add the firmware to the customer's file system.
Can you confirm this?

Thanks for your support!
