CC3200: CC3200 Battery Management

Part Number: CC3200

In my CPU board where TI CC3200 used as Main & Network controller, I am providing regulated 3.3VDC derived from mains operated isolated SMPS.

I want to use internal RTC of CC3200 for data time stamping, how I can connect battery voltage to the CC3200, I don't see separate supply pins where I can connect battery & 3.3VDC supply voltage.

Battery I am planning to use is 3V Lithium, I am planning to use diodes (Two diode in ORing mode) for connecting 3.3VDC & Battery Volatge to supply pins of CC3200 so that Battery will be in picture only when 3.3VDC is not present.

Please confirm that approach is right or not, suggest better option if any.

  • Hi Sunil,

You are correct, separate supply pins have not been designed into the CC3200. You would need some external system to manage this function.

I can't confirm whether your approach is right or not, since it isn't our specialty. A bulk capacitor might be needed during the supply switching period however.

There's probably a better TI forum to answer questions related to this, maybe the battery management forum?

    Best,
    Kevin
