CC3220: programming must to use launchPad UART

Hi Champs,

My customer wanted to use uniflash to program CC3220S and he used other USB to UART instead of launchPad. He got error message which show auto detected failure. Please see attached image.

Could you please tell me does CC3220 must have to use lauchPad do UART programming ? Can we use other USB -> UART board to do CC3220S UART programming ? thanks

Hi Lisa,

Yes the Uniflash ImageCreator GUI tool is only able to autodetect the XDS110 on the CC3220 Launchpad or the FTDI on the CC3200 Launchpad.

Hi Aaron,

I see.

However, CC3200 can use other USB to UART board and use uniflash image creator. However, CC3220 only can use XDS110 instead of any USB to UART board. Could you please tell me why? Thanks for your reply.

Hi Aaron,

CC3200 used uniflash v3.2 which is older version. Does v3.2 support general USB to UART ? Not only support FTDI & XDS110 ? thanks.

Hi Lisa,

This is because of the need for multiple resets during the course of programming for the CC3220. Uniflash 4 performs these resets automatically, but this is not done over the UART interface. Our FTDI and XDS have the GPIO to do this, and Uniflash 4 is set up to use them
