WL1835MODCOM8B: Minimum distance of at least 20 cm

Part Number: WL1835MODCOM8B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1835MOD

Hi,

I've a question on the minimum distance of 20cm in the datasheet of the EVM:

Use of this EVM requires the developer to provide a minimum distance of at least 20 cm from the antenna
to all persons in order to minimize risk of potential radiation hazards.

Is this specifically for the EVM or also for the WL1835MOD?

What about a design where the human hand is closer than 20 cm to module every once in a while?

Thanks

Fred

  • Hi Fred

This would be a general guidline for all wlan modules. Not jutst ours.
Nothing really happens in case occasionally you are closer than that.

    Best Regards,
    Eyal
  • Hi Fred,

Our EVMs and modules are certified for a distance of 20cm. This is the RF exposure test. IF you want to operate closer than 20cm, you will need to perform some additional testing (SAR testing) in order to re-use modular certification. For the EVM it is assumed that you are operating it on a lab bench and connected to a PC, thus 20 cm distance.

    Thanks,
    Riz
