CC3220MODA: Reference board design for module with external antenna

on the launchpad cc3220modasf the antenna is attached to the cc3220. My question is when you just buy cc3220modasf is the antenna attached to the chip? or do we have to create the cicruit to connect the antenna to the chip?

Hi,

CC3220MODAx contains antenna on module. For CC3220MODx (without A) you need to use external antenna (on your PCB, etc.)

So what do i need to do to ant_sel1 and ant_secl? Do i just don't connect anything to it? connect it to ground?

Hi,

Left this pins (ANT_SEL1, ANT_SEL2) NC same as RF_BG in case of selecting CC3220MODA.

Theoretically ANT_SEL pins can be used as GPIO outputs, but it is not recommended practice.

As reference for your design you should use:
- design files for CC3220MODA LaunchPad ( www.ti.com/.../swrc342 )
- datasheet for CC3220MOD ( www.ti.com/.../cc3220moda, for CC3220MODA is very important chapter 7.3.3 ).
