LAUNCHCC3220MODASF: Simplelink MCU CC3220MODASF

Part Number: LAUNCHCC3220MODASF

Hi,

We want to use CC3220MODASF for our application. But, we are having space constraint. Is it possible to eliminate the XDS110 emulator part and TIVA ARM MCU? We can give provision of JTAG connector for external debugging purpose. Please advise the feasibility of our intended approach.

Is external flash is necessary if our application requirement is satisfied by 1MB internal flash of CC3220MODASF? If it is not necessary then we can eliminate the external flash from our design to meet our size constraint. Please advise on this design aspect also.

Regards,

Ambar

  • Hi Ambar,

It is not expected that XDS110 emulator (TM4C129) will be part of final design. You can have small connector or pads for connecting external emulator for development purpose. As emulator you can use XDS110 from LaunchPad or you can buy it separately ( www.ti.com/.../TMDSEMU110-U ). But better is use it from LaunchPad.

    - In case you select Module (CC3220MODASF), sFlash memory with size 4MB is integrated in module already. You cannot connect external sFlash to module.
    - In case you select CC3220SF in QFN package, you need connect external flash to it. CC3220SF chip cannot work without external flash.

  • Hi Jan,

Thanks for your response. We have selected module (CC3220MODSF) for our design. We would like to know if XDS110 emulator is compatible with the simple link SDK?

  • Hi Ambar,

Yes, XDS110 is compatible and fully supported by the CCS and CC3220 SDK.

My recommendation is to buy ( www.ti.com/.../CC3220SF-LAUNCHXL ) for start of your development/exploration of CC3220 devices. You can start your development without disturbing you by potential design issues with your board design. At later stages you can use XDS110 from LP to debug your own board.
