CC3100MOD: Conformal coating

Part Number: CC3100MOD

To help resilience to condensation we'll be conformally coating the control board that contains this WiFi module, but it doesn't appear that such will particularly benefit the WiFi circuitry; what general rules are there as far as applying conformal coating and likely more important where to avoid applying conformal coating?

  • Hi Michael,

Regarding the effects of conformal coating on RF in general, there is some good info that can be found here:
    e2e.ti.com/.../74639

However, applying conformal coating to the CC3100MOD specifically is not going to be effective in making your board condensation-proof as there are vent holes on the CC3100MOD shield that would prevent a full seal. Alternate weatherproofing solutions such as epoxy might be more suitable.

Let me know if you have further questions or need more help on this topic.

    Regards,
    Michael
