WL1837MOD: Antenna Certification

Part Number: WL1837MOD

Hello,

I have a customer that will be using the WL1837MOD in an upcoming product, but wants to avoid getting their product certified.

They looked at the list of pre-certified antennas here, but none of them will fit inside their unit. Have any new antennas been pre-certified?

They found this antenna:

Is there any way this antenna could use the existing certifications?

Thank you,
Ryan B

  • Hi Ryan,

Looking at the antenna datasheet I do not believe this antenna will be an issue, however we always want the customer to check with their regulatory house to ensure no issues. The WL1837MOD is certified for FCC, IC, CE and Japan.

For FCC and IC in order to use an antenna that is not on the list there are 3 rules that must be met:

    1) The antenna must be of one of the types listed on our certification ( for example, whip or PCB...)
    2) The peak gain must be less than or equal to the max gain on our certification)
    3) the out of band performance must be similar.

item 3 is the grey area that we always recommend the customer to check with their test house.

For CE, it similar to FCC and IC, but since its self declaration is usually not an issue.

For Japan, the exact antenna needs to be on the certification. IF they do need to add an antenna for Japan we have a process in place for this already.

For FCC and IC if the certification house determines that they must do some additional testing (C2PC) we also have a process for this where they can benefit from our data and do delta testing to minimize the cost and time.

IF you do need the above processes you can go to: www.ti.com/.../wl18xx-CERTIFICATION

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Riz
