Hi,

I am looking to develop a monitoring system which should be able to do data acquisition, storage and Wi-Fi transmission.

Now I am testing a Cortex M4F MCU and I am looking for a Wi-Fi module. I would like to know what can I get from TI (MCU + Wi-Fi module or separate) in order to satisfy the requirements:

- around 100MHz speed

- FPU and DSP would be very nice

- QSPI interface (I need a flash unit to store data)

- it should be as low power as possible, but I don't have exact ranges

I am not sure if I have to use RTOS or not, so a recommendation with both RTOS and without would be the best.

Gabriel,

We have modules for both the CC3220 Device and our WiLink device. from a high level, the CC3220 is our Low Power microcontroller, while the Wi-Link is our high performance Line.

From what you are describing I think you'd want to look at the CC3220MOD.

Is there any other option besides CC3220? I would like to know if there is anything else a little bit more powerfull.
Also, what about it's SDK? Is there any API available and demos? I had bad experience in the past with poor APIs.

What would be the option for non-RTOS solution?

Hi Gabriel,

- Good option can be a MSP432E4 (MSP432E401 - main application MCU) + CC3120 (WiFi module).
- CC3220 is a all in one solution. Application MCU and WiFi at one chip.

Regarding RTOS. For such kind of application it is RTOS mandatory almost.

Hi Jan,

MSP432E4 looks good. I can see that it is a Cortex M4F, which is better than Cortex M4 from CC3220. Am I right?
Also, how should I interface MSP432E4 with CC3120?

Hi Gabriel,

If you want fastest MCU with integrated float point unit, then MSP432 better suits for your application.

Communication with CC3120 is done at hardware side by SPI. API commands are translated by SimpleLink driver running at your MCU (driver is in pure C). All software is available CC3120 SDK. TI already prepared this examples with MSP432E4 and CC3120:
