what is the 802.11d domain default setting???

hi:

Is default setting of domain FCC???

Austin

  • the default configuration of the 802.11d support is disable - as indicated in the the tiwlan.ini file which appears as: "default  MultiRegulatoryDomain = 0"

To enable the 802.11d support :change this parameter to 1 (after any change at the tiwlan.in need to save and reboot).

Two more important registries in the tiwlan.ini file are :AllowedChannelsTable24 and AllowedChannelsTable5 that defines

the list of channels supported by the Wireless LAN station for 2.4Ghz band  and for 5Ghz \

when enableing the 802.11d feature, the access point is responsible for supporting the FCC or ETSI Domain (country, channels, Tx power, etc).

in case the 802.11d is enabled then the wireless station will not transmit, till it doesn't receive any beacon that contain Information element # 7 (country element). Only after the wireless station receives beacons with this Information element # 7 (country element) ,it will transmit and establish wireless connection with the access point.

  • Thanks your reply.

I got some error message after enable 802.11d the scan AP by wlan_cu tool. Please see below picture. Is something wrong??

The other question is about AllowedChannelTable24.

my AllowedChannelTable24 setting in tiwlan.ini  is FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

what is correct setting for AllowedChannelTable???

If My AP set country is FR. Should I set AllowedChannelTable to 10 11 12 13 for tiwlan.ini by manual???

    Some comments:

Your Access point mast supports the regulatory domain feature.

There are two use cases Multi regulatory domain and Single regulatory domain.

In Multi domain the wireless station will not transmit (preform scan) or establish connection till it will get the Information element #7 at the access point Beacons. At the tiwlan.ini file the MultiRegulatoryDomain = 1.

For Single domain MultiRegulatoryDomain = 0 at the tiwlan.ini file and the channels supported are limited by AllowedChannelsTable24 = FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF .Each two FF are one channel, in order to disable specific channel please write 00 instead.

From the CLI please try the following commands:

    While working in single domain

List the 802.11d status at the CLI menu type: / m 8 d  .The respond should be =0.

List the 802.11 country at the CLI menu type / m 8 c  .The respond should be =0.

    While working in Multi domain

List which active and passive channels are supported by the wireless station  (at the CLI menu type / e p 1150). All the passive and active channels supported by the wireless station should be identical to those published at the Beacon message.

List the t the 802.11 country (at the CLI type / m 8 c) .Its need to be identical to the country code at the AP beacon message.

    List the t the 802.11 D status (at the CLI type / m 8 d) .should be 1

  • Hi Gil:

    Thanks your help.

I try your comments on my wireless station. But still got the same error message during scan AP(wlan_cu cmd: / a s).

the result looks like my wireless station didn't got beacon message from my AP(enable 802.11 setting)

by the way. i got  all channel is passive when I type "/ e p 1150" at CLI menu.

    Is it correct?

I also try to capture beacon packet from my AP. I saw the Country String in the wifi packet.

Does anyone tell me what's going on?

    Hi Austin

    I preform the following steps:

I preformed the test inside a RF chamber

    1)      1. On my wireless station I add to the tiwlain.ini file the support in Multi regulatory domain

“MultiRegulatoryDomain=1” and I save the file and reboot the station.

    2)      2. I disable the Access point radio.

    3)      3. After boot up the unit I tried to preform scan from the wirless station by typing  / a s

    4)     4.  Looking at the sniffer the wireless station doesn’t preform any scan.

    5)     5. Looking at the wireless station CLI screen I got the same error that you received . (I foreword this issue for the R&D investigation).

    6)      6. I’m unable to establish connection between the wireless station and the AP.

    7)     7.  I enabled the access point radio and enable support in Multi domain (country = France).

I confirm at the sniffer that the beacons contains information element # 7.

    8)      8. I preform scan from the wireless station and confirm on the sniffer that the wireless station send prob request messages over the air.

    9)      9. I manged to establish connection and transfer ping between the Wireless station and the access point.

1010.   Looking at the cli while preforming scan over and over I’m not getting the error message any more.

1111.  Please confirm your AP is supporting Multiregulatory domain.

    Regards

    Gil

I confirm with the R&D team the error message you received while trying to

Preform scan in Multi regulatory domain use case. This error message is O.K

And it’s due to following: the Driver layer send a command to firmware layer to preform active scan.

The firmware layer can’t preform any scan till it receive a beacon that contains information element #7.

This is an error message delivered from the firmware layer to the driver layer.

    Regards
