CC3200: Flash fault while Power quality is poor

Part Number: CC3200

Dears:

We use CC3200 to design wifi module with external Flash(GD25Q80CEIGR).

But meet the problem: Flash fault while Power quality is poor. (Power off while booting or Voltage drop while running)

For there are many types of end-users, Customers' power supply stability is not guaranteed。

Is there any solutions to solve the problem?

Many thanks!

  • Hi,

Your flash memory from Gigadevice (GD25Q80CEIGR) is not listed at list of recommended/tested flesh memories for CC3200 devices ( processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC3100_&_CC3200_Serial_Flash_Guide ). Your memory is operating in voltage range 2.7 to 3.6V. In comparison with MX25V8006E (memory from list above) which works in voltage range 2.35 to 3.6V. It should be expected, that such type of flash is more affected by voltage drops which may happens.

Such kind of issue with voltage drops can be solved by:
    - by selecting flash memory with wider operating voltage range
    - with proper PCB design and using sufficient size of decoupling capacitors for flash memory

Also you should follow instructions stated here:
    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC3100_&_CC3200_Serial_Flash_Guide and chapters below.
