CC3200: How to design a custom PCB circuit with CC3200, TMP006 and MPU-9250 sensor?

Part Number: CC3200

Hi everyone,

I am very new to PCB design and it will be helpful to get advise from all of you.

I am trying to custom design a PCB for my university project and one of the requirement was that I MUST use cc3200 and MPU-9250. So my question is:
1. After designing the custom circuit in Orcad Capture, how do I verify if the circuit is correctly working or not? As I am unable to use pspice because I can not find a pspice file for cc3200, is there any way around this like using Proteus Design Suite or any other software?

Thanks your help in advance.

  • Mahruz,

Before designing your own CC3200 custom board, I suggest you refer to the CC3200-LAUNCHXL EVM reference design. The design files of this EVM can be downloaded here: www.ti.com/.../swrc289

Once you begin designing your schematic, use the Hardware Design Review Spreadsheet to ensure that the device's pins are configured correctly and that they follow our guidelines. You can download this here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../HardwareDesignReviewProcess.zip

Before starting on your PCB layout,  I highly recommend that you study our CC3200 Layout Guidelines Appnote here: www.ti.com/.../swru370b.pdf

There is no pspice model of the CC3200 that you can use with your pspice simulations. What do you need to simulate exactly? If you need to simulate something like a GPIO for example, simply use the specs from the datasheet like Output Voltage or Source Current. Or to verify that your circuit is correct, use Design Rule Check.

To simulate your RF circuit, I recommend you use a software like Keysight Advanced Design System.

  • Hi Mr. Seong,

    Thank you for your reply.
I have gone through all the required documents as posted by you earlier and it helped me a lot.

However, if it is possible, I was hoping on whether you can verify my combined CC3200 integrated with MPU-9250 and TMP-006 IC's OrCAD schematic?

Speaking of Design Rule Check, after using it, I obtained some errors in it and it will be kind of you, if you can share your insights to it.

      1. ERROR(ORCAP-1628): Possible pin type conflict U3,GND  Power Connected to Output
                        PCB, MPU9250  (5.30, 3.60)
      2. WARNING(ORCAP-1829): Possible pin type conflict U3,GND  Power Connected to Bidirectional
                        PCB, MPU9250  (5.30, 3.60)
      3. ERROR(ORCAP-1628): Possible pin type conflict Y1,GND  Power Connected to Output
                        PCB, CC3200  (11.40, 7.80)
      4. QUESTION(ORCAP-1589): Net has two or more aliases - possible short? Y1,GND__1  GND__1  0
                        PCB, CC3200  (11.40, 7.90)

    Thank You,
    Mahruz Aziz

  • Hi Mahruz,

Yes, I can review your schematic after you've gone through the CC3200 checklist () and provided your input on columns G and H on the "CC3200R" tab.

Attach the completed checklist to your next reply and I'll send you a friend request so that you can share your schematic via direct message.

I may not be of much assistance with your DRC errors since I'm not able to see your schematic/layout, but it sounds like you either have VCC or GND tied to incorrect pins on your devices OR you need to edit the footprints and re-define these pin to the correct type.

  • HardwareDesignReviewProcess - 1p60.xlsx

    Hi again,
As requested, I have uploaded the excel sheet with the information of my schematics to the best of my knowledge.

I will be awaiting for your friend request in order to share the custom schematic for your verification.

    Thank you a lot.

  • Thanks, Mahruz. Friend request sent.
