Linux/WL1837MOD: Hostapd ACS not working R8.7_SP3

Hi We're using R8.7_SP3 version of hostapd and can't seem to get it working. Tried configuration with both channel=0 and channel=acs_survey. It looks like hostapd tries to start a scan but the driver doesn't pass back the survey results?

    Setting the Channel as "0" should work.
    Have you checked our sample hostapd.conf located in:
    git.ti.com/.../hostapd.conf

    and change the channel to:
    channel=0

    Tried with the sample conf file and same results (log file attached). It looks a bit like the scan get aborted just after being started for some reason, is this normal?

    Is it possible for you to try the standard upstream version (v2.7) of hostapd instead of the one you have used from R8.7_SP3 and let me know if you see the same issue?

    As you are using v4.9 your drivers/mac80211 are actually newer than the drivers that are part of R8.7_SP3 which was v4.4 based and it is better to try with the latest stable mainline version of hostapd.

  • Tried with hostapd 2.7, same problem unfortunately (log attached). Are there any other logs we can look at to diagnose?

    Side question, is there anywhere that details the differences between the TI hostapd and wpa_supplicant fork and the original? What are we compromising by using the latest upstream version instead?

    I have just tried on my setup and no issue with using channel=0 and it selected a channel automtically.

    One thing I notices is that in my logI see the following message:

    CONFIG_ACS was not set. use custom ACS

    I don't see this message it in your log. did you set CONFIG_ACS in your .config when building hostapd?

    We don't use this switch in our builds.

    In case you did. Can you please disable it, rebuild and try again?

  • Hi Eyal,

    Thanks that solved it, rebuilt TI 8.7_SP3 hostapd without CONFIG_ACS=y, set channel=0 in the config and it works.

    So in summary upstream ACS doesn't work for whatever reason, need to use TI custom ACS.
