WL1837MOD: Max Tx Power

Part Number: WL1837MOD

Hello,

A customer is doing UL certification for a handheld product that includes a our wireless module WL1837MOD and they need to know what the maximum transmit power is to determine whether they need to do Specific Absorption Rate testing. They are using both the Wifi and BT through a single antenna that supports 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz operation (molex 146153).  The datasheet is a little confusing since it specifies everything in dbm, and I don’t know how that correlates to watts of power. Can you help out with this?

Thank you,
Ryan B.

  • Hi Ryan,

Since it is a handheld product the customer will require some additional testing as you mentioned. In particular SAR testing. Our certification is valid for >20cm away from the body.

Our certification reports are available on TI.com and you can download them here: www.ti.com/.../wl18xx-certification (first link). In here you will find all our reports and can then determine the output power as well as powers used to calculate RF Exposure. If SAR testing is required, you can use the second link where we can generate a letter for the customer in order to perform the delta testing on their onw FCC/IC IDs and reuse our data. In this way the customer can still leverage the majority of our certification.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Riz
