CC3220SF: Connect to WiFi Network not in Scan List

Part Number: CC3220SF

Until recently, every environment that team members and I have operated in have had it such that the network that we wished to connect to showed up in the network scan list of the CC3220.  Sometimes there were >32 networks, but the one that we cared about was in the list of 32 that were picked up by the CC3220.

One of my teammates, today, was in a place where there were very many broadcasting networks. The network that he cared about did not show up in the scanned network list. Also, he could not get the CC3220 to connect to the network. There were no error messages or anything, the device just sits there not connecting to the requested network.

Is there a description of how network connectivity works in with respect to the above scenario that's living out in TI documentation land somewhere?

Can we connect to a network not in the scanned list? if not, any way to sort of "page" through detected networks?

Any help is greatly appreciated as usual.

Thanks,
Trevor

  • So, the original issue is solved. It turned out that the network that was desired to be connected to was a 5GHz 802.11AC network. A 2.4 GHz network was spun up and all worked. However, something of note: the SSID showed up in the network list.

So, I am still curious if there are any issues around connecting to a network that does not show up in the network scan list. I will test this at some point, but will not be able to do so for at least a few weeks.
  • Hi Trevor,

I'm glad you resolved your issue.
The network scan list returned to the host application may not necessarily have all of the SSIDs that the CC3220 NWP detects, due to memory limitations. The CC3220 NWP will scan and detect all SSIDs within range, even in a very crowded environment where the number of SSIDs exceed the number that can be reported back to the application. Thus, just because an SSID doesn't show up on the network list doesn't mean that the CC3220 does not detect it. In such cases, if you provided the correct Wi-Fi profile details then the CC3220 will connect to it properly.
