This is not supported for the CC3135. If you're looking for a Wi-Fi network processor to pair with a Linux host, you may be interested in our WiLink devices:

For my education, in what way is that configuration not supported? Or, to ask another way, what are the supported configurations for the CC3135? The dual-band WiLink parts cost twice as much.

Hi Scott,

The operation of the CC31xx devices relies on the host processor (typically an MCU class device) being able to run what is called the "SimpleLink Host Driver". This is a software driver that handles the protocol necessary to communicate with the network processor. With SimpleLink Wi-Fi the host does not run the networking stack because it is integrated in the device (ROM code + patch file).

The host driver can be ported to different host devices by updating the interface layer (either UART or SPI) and the OS adaptation layer. This is described in sections 1.3-1.4 and Chapter 19 of the network processor programmer's guide:

There is no solution available for integrating the host driver and using it with Linux.

I see -- thank you for explaining. It's unfortunate that there isn't an equivalent part which works with Linux at that price point.

Hi Scott,

But it does not mean that will not be possible to create Linux driver. This way is not supported by TI only.

Good example of porting may to be this for CC3100 github.com/.../cc3100-linux
