WL1831MOD: Bluetooth TX power

Part Number: WL1831MOD

Hi Team,

Table 6-2 of the WL1831MOD datasheet states the the 'Maximum TX power' for Bluetooth is 11.7 dBm 'typical'. There is no min/max value specified. So in worst case, what will be the min output power if WL1831MOD is configured to work with max power?

A customer of mine would like to achive 20 dBm, or get at least close to it.

Thanks,
  Robert

  • Hi Robert,

We have a part-to-part variation due to manufacturing tolerances of +/-1.5dBm from the typical value. We will not be able to achieve the 20dBm requirement for BT here.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Riz
  • Hi Riz.

to achieve the 20dBm requirement for BT, can we use external LNA just after the Antenna ? will certification still be available ?

What is the best solution to increase the power output of the module (emission) BT, keeping the ETSI/CE certification ?

    Thanks,

    Dayan LOMBARDI

  • Hi Dayan,

We cannot increase output power for BT with our module. The BLE path within the module shares a single pin for the RX/TX path, thus if you ad a PA to the output pin, you will be blocking the RX signal. So unfortunately this is not possible. Also the rules for radio certification state that if you change something in the RF path (other than the antenna matching), the certification is in valid and some additional testing would be needed.

In short, we cannot increase the output power for BT in our module.

    Thanks

    Riz
