CC3135: Wi-Fi coexistence with IEEE802.15.4

Part Number: CC3135

Hello team,

My customer wants to know the coexistence of WIFI and other IEEE802.15.4 2.4Ghz RF.

Please find below their block diagram. which It is slightly different from TI design, by enabling IEEE802.15.4 to select antenna as well.

Does use of coexistence circuit effect the “Transferable Wi-Fi Alliance® Certification” of the design?

Will design below effect the “Transferable Wi-Fi Alliance® Certification” of the design?

Could you please advise the above, Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

I sent it to a concerned engineer. We will get back to you ASAP. Please bear with us.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Shai,

I  hope all is well. For the Wi-Fi Alliance, since it is based on the IC receiving this there should be no issue in having this transferred over.

In terms of your implementation, There are a few things to keep in mind:

    1) The implementation that we have for Wi-Fi is antenna selection. That is on power up we determine the best antenna to use based on Wi-Fi performance and not on BT performance. Thus ones the antenna is selected the antenna chosen will be used for both Wi-Fi and BT modulations.

    2) The way you have the configuration you need to ensure also that for antenna selection using the internal algorithm that both 2.4GHz and the 5GHZ path pic the same antenna for the calibration, if not, then there may be issues with the algorithm

    3) You have an additional control signal from the BT to the Antenna selection block. IF you are looking at switching antennas during this time for BT performance, you need to ensure the timing requirements are met. This may be difficult as this is not the intended operation of the device.

In the end I cannot be sure of the performance in your application, this was not the original intent of using antenna selection. IF you go down this route, you will need to do some significant testing to ensure the switch between BT to Wifi and the antenna 1 to antenna 2 does not cause a reduction in thru-put due to missed packets or performance issues.

Our suggestion is to used our recommended implementation per the datasheet and use antenna selection as its intended use.

    Thanks,

    Riz
