CC3220SF: load program in CCS debug mode

Part Number: CC3220SF

Hi team,

The application image resides in the XIP Flash in CC3220SF. I tried to debug another application in CCS debug mode. How come the original image in the chip was not overwritten during the debug process? Is there a document covering this mechanism?

Thanks!

Jo

  • Hi Jo,

XIP Flash is something like "execution cache". Original application binary is in sFlash (serial flash) and bootlaoder reads content of binary file and fill XIP flash if needed (if content of XIP flash changed). In debugging by JTAG/SWD there is a "shortcut" and debugger fill content of XIP flash directly. But original content of sFlash is not affected. That means after reset is original content of sFlash loaded into XIP flash.

Boot procedure of CC3220SF device is described at TRM chapter 21.6 and further.
