WL1837MOD: Will TI provide EU regulatory support for UNII-3 (Channels 149-165) with the WL1837?

Part Number: WL1837MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1837

Does TI have plans to provide EN 300 440 test reports for Wilink8 operation in channels 149-165, aka UNII-3 band in Europe? We have a customer in the EU using a WiFi interface that is incompatible with our product because it is trying to connect on Channel 157. We rely on establishing peer-to-peer connections for our end product function. It seems that there is a path to compliance with the RED directive using the 300 440 standard.

Is there any reason why the WL1837 would not be compliant to the EN 300 440 standard?

  • Hi,

The reason it is not covered for Europe is that it is an SRD (short range device), where the output power is limited to 25mW. Our implementation for our .INI file looks at the requirements of all regions and takes the super set. Thus if this channel were supported for EU, the FCC power would be limited to 25mW. There are no places to test to the EN 300 440 for EU.

    Thanks,

    Riz
