WL1837MOD: The number of layer of reference design

Part Number: WL1837MOD

Hi

I have a question about the document http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/zip/swru554.

There is the description

"The Reference design is 4-layers 1.6 mm thickness board"

at the cell C3 on "Layout Checklist" tab.

Q1)  I'd like to know the background of this checklist. Why do I have to follow the rule.

Q2)  Is 6-layers acceptable? We have to design 4-layers?

Thanks and Best regards,

HaTa.

  • Hi HaTa,

The checklist is meant to help wit the design process in order to ensure proper functionality of the device and to meet regulatory compliance.

6-layers is acceptable. Just make sure to maintain good grounding under the device to allow for thermal relief, and that you maintain a 50ohm match on your RF trace.

    Thanks,

    Alexis
