CC3220SF: vs CC3220S power consumption

We are deciding between CC3220S and CC3220SF, I have done all the power measurements on CC3220S and they are fairly consistent when we use it in the conditions mentioned in the guides. We were wondering if there is any power difference between CC3220S and CC3220SF, we do not see idle connected power numbers for CC3220SF in the datasheet.

Hi,

The SF idle connected numbers are similar, i.e. 710uA for idle-connected (see chapter 5.6).

Idle connected is a dynamic profile that combines mainly the RX (beacon reception) and LPDS (sleep between beacons) numbers.

Note that the different numbers you saw are when the MCU is active (see chapter 5.5-5.6).

When the MCU is in LPDS (e.g. in idle connected) then the power consumption is similar for S and SF devices.

The TIDC-01005 lists the idle power 377uA for the CC3220S launchpad. Why are the numbers up in the 700s for SF version?

This is achieved with the non-standard Long Sleep Interval feature (check in http://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra502c/swra502c.pdf).

In this case the device will not wake up for every beacon and DTIM.
