CC3120MOD: Router losing MDNS

Part Number: CC3120MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3120

Our product uses the CC3120MOD to connect our consumers to a mobile app using their home Wi-Fi network.  One of our developers has had instances with his router where the MDNS disappears while using our IOS mobile app.  We have many other installations where this does not happen.  The router is a NETGEAR AC1000 Dual Band Model: R6080.  One thing we did to test the CC3120MOD was to switch to a different router at the time when the MDNS had disappeared using the AC1000 and the alternate router showed the MDNS working.  This test led us to believe the router was the problem.  Do you have any suggestions on how to diagnose this further.  We are using the CC3120MOD default settings for MDNS.  Should we try changing the timing?

Gary

  • Hi Gary,

Do you see any async events from the CC3120? These should be in the SimpleLinkNetAppEventHandler.

    Best regards,

    Sarah

  • Hi Sarah,

No we don't. There is no indication from our diagnostics that anything is wrong.  We can still talk to through the router using the IP address.  It would seem as though this router stopped receiving or relaying the MNDS.  It usually does not happen for hours.  Is there a specific event we should look for?  We cover the usual ones based on examples that TI provides.

    Thanks,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

Many routers will have a system log in their settings menu. Is there anything there that indicates an issue? Otherwise, you may need to do a sniffer capture to determine the behavior of this Access Point.

You can try taking NWP Logs as well, but if you are not seeing any async events (even just entering SimpleLinkNetAppEventHandler), then the CC3120 may not be catching an event.

    Best regards,

    Sarah
