WL1835MOD: BLE non-connectable beacon

Part Number: WL1835MOD

Hi,

My project uses WL1835MODGB and I have been able to get Bluetopia stack up on my board. My requirement is to configure BLE device as a non-connectable beacon broadcaster. Which of the sample applications provided in the link https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI_Bluetooth_Stack_for_WL18xx_-_Demo_Guide

would serve the purpose,,, is it iBeacon? But I see that it has a provision to set only 3 parameters (BeaconMajor, BeaconMinor, tx power). My manufacturer data would be anywhere between 10-20 bytes and so I need further provision to advertise custom manufacturer specifc data. Could you point me to the correct application demo for this kind of requirement or source code so I could modify if there is no specific application demo?

Thanks

Fariya

  • Hi Fariya,

The iBeacon demo would be the appropriate starting point for your application. See my E2e post here for some more info on what to modify in order to set your own custom data to advertise within the GATT profile.

Let me know if you need more clarification or have further questions on this topic.

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  I have some follow up questions. Could you help guide on the following:

    a) If we implement connectable beacons i.e before connection the BLE beacon will contain custom data to be interpreted by the master device (mobile device) and after connection also the master can request for some data from the peripheral... For this kind of application, what kind of profile do you suggest? Do you have sample applications for this kind of requirement? If possible, could you please point to the source files to be modified to fit in custom mfg UUID and data for this.

    b) For unconnectable beacons, it is quite clear that we need to use the iBeacon profile and make the changes you pointed out.

Could you also point to the exact link for the source code of the applications that you are referring to?

    Regards,

    Fariya
