simplelink wifi starter pro for android can not find WI-FI router

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3120MOD, CC3120

Hello,

I would like to make a provisioning on my CC3120MOD device.

Download the the last version of the Simplelink WiFi Starter Pro app.

The application can not find my WiFi router (can not find any router).

The smart phone is HUAWEI P20Lite

Android version 9.1.0

Best regards,

Ilian

  • Hey Ilian,

Is your phone able to find and connect to your Wi-Fi router through the normal phone settings (Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi)?

When you open the app and click the drop down arrow on "Device to configure", what happens? It should bring up your phones default Wi-Fi connections menu and allow you to connect to a router in the same way you would normally.

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

yes my phone is able (and is connected normally to the Wi-Fi router) and work via Wi-Fi router, and is able to find all Wi-Fi routers around.

From configuration page -> WiFi network drop down menu - open new window and can not find any WiFi router (the list is blank)

When I start the application there is a message:

    "No WiFi Connection

Please connect your Smart Phone to router"

The phone is already connected to the router and work properly via WiFi.

The exact Android version is: 9.1.0.306 (C432E6R1P7) patch02

    Best regards,

    Ilian

  • Hey Ilian,

That is certainly an odd issue. Here are few debugging steps off the top of my head:

    1. Try disabling "Auto device selection" in the app Settings menu.
    2. If disabling auto device selection doesn't work, it's possible there was an issue during the installation process, try re-installing the app and make sure to allow all the permissions it asks for.
    3. If none of the above work, could you try the app on another mobile device?

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Hi I try with another phone.

The application is connected, but from "Configuration page" -> Device to - can not enable wifi router.

    Phone is Samsung A40

    Android 10

    Ilian

  • Hi Paul,

    The problem continue to exist.

    1. I am trying to use Wi-Fi Starter Pro to provision the Simplelink device in AP mode.

The CC3120MOD enter in provisioning AP+SC mode and I see it own network - mysimplelink-65ED2C.

But from Configuration page-> Device to configure - the application can find simplelink device.

    2. I trying to use application in SmartConfig mode.

In this mode the application SimplelinkStarterPro can not find the WiFi network.

    3. Do not use SimplelinkStarterPro.

I trying to configure profile (make i provisioning) simplelink device CC3120MOD by HTTP internal server.

I see  mysimplelink-65ED2C. WiFi AP and via phone browser connect to it and configure the profile.

Here the problem is that the phone browser does not receive confirmation for Provisionning success and firmware handle the "SL_WLAN_PROVISIONING_CONFIRMATION_STATUS_SUCCESS_FEEDBACK_FAILED" event due to the timeout expire - 30s.

This timeout in this mode can not be set by the firmware.

    Best regards,

    Ilian

  • Hey Ilian,

Unfortunately, I'm unable to replicate the issue you're seeing. I'm using a mobile device with Android 10 and the latest version of the SimpleLink WiFi Starter Pro app (Build 2.2.275 SC lib 1.0.2). The mobile app is able to correctly display and list available network devices. I will let our tools engineers know the devices you mentioned that are having issues. And just so you can compare, here are the steps I followed to provision the device:

    1) Start CC3120 in AP+SC mode
    2) Open the WiFi Starter Pro app
    3) In the Settings tab, disable Auto device selection and Smart Config (AP provisioning for this example)
    4) In the Provisioning tab, click Device to configure
    5) From the menu that pops up choose your device SSID: mysimplelink-xxxxxx
    6) Go back to the app. The device chosen should match what you chose in the step before
    7) In the Provisioning tab, click WiFi network
    8) From the menu that pops up choose your Wi-Fi router and enter the network password
    9) Then click start configuration

For provisioning via the internal server, you're correct, the default 30 second timeout for receiving provisioning confirmation is not configurable. However the profile should still successfully be added. Please see this thread for an explanation of how this works: https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless-connectivity/wifi/f/968/t/667023

  • Hi Paul,

    Thank you for your answer!

Using the app I make the steps, which you describe (also explained in  Simplelink Academy WiFi provisioning).

But the phone did not discovery Simplelink device and WiFi network.

According to the internal HTTP server I receive the confirmation using: IP address of the simplelink/__SL_G_MCR - command send from browser.

But this work only for testing purposes.

    Best regards,

    Ilian

  • Hey Ilian,

Apologies for the delayed response here. I'm speaking with the tools team about the issue you're seeing with the devices you tested. I will update you with any new information I receive from them.

Here are a few clarifying questions:

    1. Can you confirm that you are using the latest version of the SimpleLink WiFi Starter Pro app (Build 2.2.275 SC lib 1.0.2)?
    2. Could you provide a screenshot of your Settings page as well as the screen that pops up when you click Device to configure?
    3. If possible, can you try the app on a different phone from the 2 you tested before? The more data points we have here the easier it could make debugging this issue.

    I appreciated your patience here!

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    1. The version is : Build 2.2.275 SC lib 1.0.2

    2.

  • Hey Ilian,

Thank you for providing the screenshots!

There aren't any known issues with either of the two phones you tested. Generally if the phone is able to scan and list Wi-Fi networks then the mobile app should be able to as well. One thing you could try is disabling cellular data. Some phones seem to have issues with non-connected networks.

    Regards,

    Paul
