WL1837MOD: Bluetooth certification testing question

Part Number: WL1837MOD

Our company undergoing FCC and CE certification, we will need to perform some tests for wifi and Bluetooth.

For the wifi, we followed the wifi https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_TX_Testing and https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_RX_Testing

For Bluetooth, we know is referring at here https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_Bluetopia_PM_Bluetooth_RF_Testing

Without direct access to the HCI UART and debug pins, we will need to use hcitools cmd in order to make those tests.

There is some questions regarding the page, we are requested to do BT ER+EDR and BLE test.

1. For BT ER+EDR, we will need to create Modulation wave and carrier wave with low, middle, high channel and hopping/

And for Modulation wave, we need to set 1DH1/ 1DH3/ 1DH5/ 2DH1/ 2DH3/ 2DH5/ 3DH1/ 3DH3/ 3DH5

Does it mean for Packet TX/RX ?

2. The Packet length in Packet TX/RX just have 0-17 -> DM1, 0-27 -> DH1, 0-121 -> DM3, 0-183 -> DH3, 0-224 -> DM5, 0-339 -> DH5

For other Packet types, is this correct?

0-54 -> 2-DH1, 0-367 -> 2-DH3, 0–679 -> 2-DH5, 0-83 -> 3-DH1, 0–552 -> 3-DH3, 0-1021 -> 3-DH5

3. For BLE, We will need to create Modulation wave and carrier wave with low, middle, high channel.

And for Modulation wave, we will need o test with Packet data length of 37.

https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_Bluetopia_PM_Bluetooth_RF_Testing#BLE_testing_2

Inside the page, it only shows how we can test Transmitter Test and Receiver Test.

May we know is there any information about the BLE, what is the parameter that we can use for setting the frequency and packet data length?

4. On the page, there is a note saying that The Wilink_X device must be power cycled when switched between different FCC modes.

May we know how we can power cycled the wl18xx with hcitools cmd or is just hciconfig hci0 down and hciconfig hci0 up?

  • Hi kh,

    Thank you for these questions. We will look into this and get back to you shortly.

  • With regard to issuing the HCI test commands from host processor, which Bluetooth stack are you using? If you are using Bluez, you can use 'hcitool' utility, with Bluetopia stack, you can use 'ss1tool'. Please check the below link for instructions on using these tools..

    https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_Bluetopia_PM_Bluetooth_RF_Testing#Conversion_of_HCI_Commands_to_SS1Tool_or_hcitool_format

    Thanks

  • Hi Hari Nagalla,

    Thanks for your reply.

    We are using Bluez, so we will use the `hcitool`

    But my question is regarding the details on the setting

  • kh Tan,

    Apologies for the late reply. I will need to confirm your first question regarding the packet types with one of our engineers. I will try to get an answer for you as soon as possible.

    For carrier wave, use the command Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Tester_Con_TX. Continuous TX -> CW. The parameters for this TX command is listed on the wiki page.

    For packetized signal, use the command Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Tester_Packet_TX_RX. See the parameters for this TX command and you'll note how you can select the TX frequency (low, medium, high). Ensure that you set the frequency mode to single frequency so that there is no hopping and the device continuously transmits on one channel.

    With regards to resetting the controller, yes, you can simply use "hciconfig hci0 down" and "hciconfig hci0 up".

  • kh Tan,

    We looked into the FW, and there is no restriction on the ‘Packet Data Length’. So, even though the lengths are not explicitly stated for ‘2-DH1’ to ‘3-DH5’ packets in the Wiki, you can try with passing the packet lengths corresponding to these types in the ‘Send_HCI_VS_DRPb_Tester_Packet_TX_RX’ command.
