CC3100BOOST: Regarding E1 antenna connection in the schematic

Dear All,

We are reviewing CC3100 development board schematics and found that both the end of the antenna E1 has been connected with the ground ( I have attached a screenshot of the same). Is that correct or am I missing something? And where could we find the " Special layout design for antenna " file as mentioned in the schematic?

Hi,

That does look like an error. Have you checked the layout of the antenna portion to see if the signal path indeed leads to ground?

I have asked the HW folks to comment on this. They will get back as soon as possible.

No, we have not checked the antenna layout, please guide us from where we could download E1 antenna layout.

We are integrating CC1350, CC3100 development boards and few sensors into a single PCBA board. Is that possible to get support from the TI hardware team whether our designs are correct and followed design rules set by TI team?

The E1 antenna is the AH316M245001-T. See datasheet here.

Page 8 of the datasheet shows the AH316M land pattern dimension examples and recommended antenna land pattern, which is what the note, "Check special layout needs for antenna", is referring to.

Here, you'll also note that the RF trace eventually connects to the GND plane. You can also see this on our reference design (see image below). This is why the schematic shows that both ends of the antenna are connected to GND.
