CC3200: Connection to Ap is unstable

Part Number: CC3200

Hello ,

I am testing our new hardware based on cc3200 where i found that the connection to the AP is not always stable comparing to our previous hardware, sometimes i face many 110 error of disconnection and -102 general event sometimes it goes ok and it seems to be more stable when i use .however it is unpredictible and there is no difference between the software used in the old hardware version and the new one the same SDK the same servicepack,it is weird,
-can i say it is rf path problem?if yes why it happens sometimes with high frequence and sometimes it is more stable?

-or can i say it is linked to power rail problem

what are the tests i can do to assert the source of problem

PS : i did RSSI it is close to -25db when it is close to the router

best regards

  • Hi,

It looks like a hardware issue like a manufacturing issue (assembling problem, problem with PCB) or issue with components. Do you use CC3200 QFN or CC3200MOD?

    • you should check stability of your clock - especially 40MHz XTAL - see this wiki page RTC XTAL you can check as well
    • at 2nd step you should test your RF path/output (test proper antenna matching, at VAN, test RF output at spectrum analyser)

    Answer to your questions:

-can i say it is rf path problem?if yes why it happens sometimes with high frequence and sometimes it is more stable?

Yes. It can be. Any RF connection is very dynamic process and depends on many variables (RF interferences, functions of AP, etc.)

-or can i say it is linked to power rail problem

Yes. It can be. But you can check easily at your oscilloscope for any Vcc dropouts.
