CC3135MOD: Inquiries about Datasheet and 5GHz DFS

Part Number: CC3135MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hi Experts,

I got some inquiries about CC3135MOD datasheet, as follows.

1. TX of '5.5 Current Consumption Summary: 5 GHz RF Band' section,

It seems there is not any description of ‘Test condition’, like 2.4GHz. I mean, there is not any information about TX power level. Could you elaborate them, please?

2. Section 5.7 TX Power Control for 5 GHz Band

Regarding TX Power Control for 2.4GHz Band, there are some graphs which shows TX Power and IBAT versus TX power level settings for each modulations. However, for 5 GHz Band, there is not any graphs. Could you elaborate them, please?

3. 5GHz DFS function

Customer understand CC3135MOD supports DFS (https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless-connectivity/wifi/f/968/p/935710/3457239#3457239). In Japan, customer needs to support DFS for W53 (52ch-64ch) and W56 (100ch~-40ch). Customer would like to know how DFS should be implement to their system with CC3135MOD. Are there any helpful documents/URL ?

It will be appreciated if you will share Expert’s advice/comment on them.

Best regards,

Miyazaki

  • Hello team,

    I have additional question.

    4. I checked CC3135 Module Certification Reports and noticed TI had done the certification with BOOSTXL-CC3135MOD board.  would you plan to release BOOSTXL-CC3135MOD board officially, near future?

    best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Hi,

We will look into it and get back to you ASAP. Please bear with us.

    Thanks,

    PM

  • Hello,

Can we have Expert's advice/comments on those inquiries, please?

    best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Hi Takayuki,

    Please see my answers below:

    1. The current consumption shown in the 5GHz table is when the TX is at maximum power.
    2. We do not have this data. I will reach out to our R&D team and see if there is any information I can provide.
    3. To clarify, the CC3135MOD is a DFS Slave device. This means it cannot dictate which frequency to connect to because it does not have a detection mechanism. It can transmit on a DFS channel, but like a Master DFS device (the AP), it is not the one checking before transmitting. With that said, the customer does not need to implement anything to enable this.
    4. There are no plans to RTM the BOOSTXL-CC3135MOD.

    Hope this helps,

    Seong

  • Hello Seong,

Thanks for your clarification. (and I noticed I wrote incorrect section number. I'm sorry..).

Regarding #2, our customer is hoping to get those information from R&D team. If you need more time of this researching, could you share this estimating rough schedule, please?

Regarding #3, I’d like to clarify it, a little bit more. This means, when CC3135MOD is configured to AP, CC3x35MOD does not support 5GHz DFS (as master), Is that correct? According to certification reports, I noticed “EUT Operating Mode” is only “”Slave, without radar detection function”.

    Best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Hi Takayuki,

R&D reported that we do not have this data. Currently, I am unable to give you any dates.

Yes, when the CC3135MOD does not have DFS mechanism as an AP/master. It only has DFS mechanism when it is in STA/slave mode.

    Seong

  • Takayuki,

Our tools team reported back that we don't support power levels in 5 GHz.

On 2.4GHz, TX Power can be adjusted from 0-15. (in BO, or BackOff, 0 is the strongest).

However, for 5GHz, although you have the same 0-15 power levels on Uniflash or RadioTool, they have no effect. 5GHz only has one level of "no BO" (by design) and configuring the power settings will have no effect on the output power or TX chain.

    BR,

    Seong
