CC3235MODS: Inquiries about MIC/TELEC(Japanese RF certification)

Part Number: CC3235MODS

Hello Experts,

We receives some inquiries about Japanese RF certification from customer.

1. Customer knows CC3235MODS is certified for FCC, IC/ISED, ETSI/CE, MIC(TELEC), and SRRC. According to Certification reports (https://www.ti.com/tool/SIMPLELINK-CC3XXX-CERTIFICATION), some Antennas information are described.  Customer understand that they don't need to re-test RF certification if customer selects one of Antenna-list. Is that correct? Customer would like to confirm it.

2. If customer would like to use another Antenna which is not described on this list, customer needs to re-test RF Certification(TELEC) by themselves. Is that correct?

3. If customer will request TI to do RF certification with other Antenna (which customer would like to use), could TI accept their request?

4. When customer will test RF Certification(TELEC) with CC3235MODS /other Antenna by themselves, new certification-ID may be created. But, ins this case, this new certification-ID will be conflicted. How should customer resolve this issue? Customer needs to put a sticker of new-Certification-ID on module?

5. Regarding Certification report(https://www.ti.com/tool/SIMPLELINK-CC3XXX-CERTIFICATION), CAF94504 was described on “Antenna Information” . According to this antenna datasheet(https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/986/Datasheet_-_NanoBlade_0518-1590938.pdf), there is “MAF95090” which seems sister Antenna. Would you think TI's certification report is able to cover this “MAF95090” antenna?

6. Regarding WiFI certification, when customer will develop their system with other Antenna, would you think the WFA Derivative Certification policy(https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra458f/swra458f.pdf) is still available?

7. In the case that customer would like to use CC3235MODS+other Antenna, generally, How would TI support customer ?

Can we have your Expert’s advice/comments on this, please? A quick response is appreciated.

Best regards,

Miyazaki

  • Hi Experts,

    I have one additional inquiry.

    8. I’m not sure if it is possible to get MIC/TELEC certification (same certification-ID) with other antenna. I mean, it is not new certification( but additional/updating certification). Is it possible to update antenna-list on certification report(same certification-ID)? If it is possible, customer would like to request TI to do this certification. Regarding other antenna, customer assumes that the antenna-gain does not exceed to the antenna-gain which TI already listed on certification reports. could TI accept their request?

We really appreciate if Experts will share quick answers.

    best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Hi Miyazaki,

We'll look into this and get back to you shortly.

    Seong

  • Miyazaki,

    1)      That is correct. In order to use the Japan certification it must be one of the antennas on our certified list.

    2)      There is no need to retest. What needs to be done is we need to get the antenna that you want to use onto the TI certificate. We have a process for this. You can send a request from the certification page: https://www.ti.com/tool/SIMPLELINK-CC3XXX-CERTIFICATION. Use the Request or Resources link to do this.

    3)      Yes TI can accept this, once a formal request is made we can walk you thru the process.

    4)      No need as we will add the antenna to TI certification.

    5)      The exact part number needs to be on the TI certification.

    6)      I believe this is correct.

    7)      See 2 above. Note that to add the new antenna the max gain must be less than or equal to what is on our certification. It cannot be higher or you will need to redo Japan certification.

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hello Seong,

Thank you so much for quick answers. I really appreciate your help.

I have forgot one following question.

If the gain is insufficient when TI recommended antenna is mounted on customer’s system, I believe it is possible to adjust the RF power of CC3235MODS. however, in the worst case (nonadjustable case), Is customer able to request Re-TELEC certification?  I'm not sure of this worst case occurred so far.

    best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Miyazaki,

If the antenna's max gain is higher than what is on our certification, the customer will need to redo Japan certification.

    Seong

  • Hi Seong,

Thank you for your clarification. Please allow me to ask one point. According to Certification report (RF Output Power Tolerance), the actual measure antenna power tolerance between +20% to -80% power range. This mean, when the gain of customer’s system is staying this range, customer will not need to redo Japan certification. Is that correct?

    Best regards,

    Miyazaki

  • Takayuki,

That is the output power tolerance. The gain of the antenna must be less than our max gain on the Japan certification.

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hello Seong,

    Thanks for your clarification.
