For application support I want to customize MAC & PHY layer of IEEE 802.15.4 on CC2652P1FRGZR wireless MCU, does CC2652P1FRGZR support customization of MAC & PHY layer?

what length of flexibility does this device support for customization or change of MAC & PHY layer ?

Hi Aniket,

In short, Yes you can modify PHY layer. When it comes to the MAC it will depend on what you want to modify.

Can you expand on what do you want to modify?

I want to implement CDMA , which requires changes in the PHY layer and MAC layer.

In MAC layer I want to disable CSMA and implement CDMA

Hi Aniket,

I am assuming you plan on building your own protocol using the radio commands provided?

If so, it should be as easy as not sending any CMD_IEEE_CSMA to the radio. You can then implement CDMA in software and call your implementation instead of CMD_IEEE_CSMA.

Thanks for your response on disabling CSMA.

Yes we are planning to build our own protocol. I have gone through the Radio Software Bundle (rflib) API Documentation of TI from here

but could not find commands related to modification of PHY layer. are there any API commands related to this?

Aniket,

You do not need to disable anything on the PHY.

As long as you do not tell the radio to do CSMA before transmit, you should be good.

This is achieved by NOT scheduling any CMD_IEEE_CSMA commands.

If you need to modify the PHY (data rate, modulation, rx bandwidth, frequency, etc..) this can be done using smartRF Studio https://www.ti.com/tool/SMARTRFTM-STUDIO

I have one follow-up question on this:

CC2652P supports OQPSK modulation with DSSS1:8. Is symbol to chip mapping for DSSS is fixed or can we configure it using smartRF ?

what I exactly want to know is 32 bit chip sequence assignment for given symbol is fixed or configurable?

Hey Aniket,

No, you are not able to modify this from RF studio.

The radio is capable of modifying this, but these modifications/registers are not exposed.
