CC2531: Receiving RF power without core power okay?

Part Number: CC2531

If the CC2531 is powered down (DVDD and AVDD = 0V), will there be any issues with incoming RF power on the RF_N/RF_P lines?

I have an LNA between the antenna and the CC2531, and the LNA may remain powered while the CC2531 is powered down.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

As long as the RF power on the lines is less than the maximum safe voltage on the pins for this device, then you should not expect any damage to occur regardless of whether the device is on or off. However, I would recommend ensuring that the LNA is not powered on if the CC2531 is not powered on. If the LNA remained powered, while the CC2531 is off, then the device will be consuming power even though the MCU is off.

  • Thanks for the reply, Jan.  I'm not terribly concerned with a few wasted mA from the LNA, but allowing for one LNA to provide signal to multiple CC2531 chips via a Wilkinson splitter (while some CC2531's are powered down) is a big plus for my application.

  • Hi Daniel,

Got it. If that is the case, then I would not expect any issues as described in my previous message. I will close this thread at this time. Thank you for reaching out!
