[CC2652P] How to erase flash of dongle using XDS110

Hi Luca,

I'm assuming this means that specifically you have a TMDSEMU110-U?  You can review the Product Page and User's Guide for more information about this device.  There is also the JTAG Connectors and Pinout and XDS Target Connection pages with further information.  The pin connections you've made appear to be correct.  Is the USB connected when connecting the XDS110?  Have you tried using CCS or Uniflash to program the device?  Please provide images of the debugger connection setup and the Flash Programmer 2 GUI view when trying to program the device.  You can also contact SonOff for their experiences with programming this hardware.

Also tried connecting the dongle to the PC via USB, but still nothing.

Also tried holding boot button on the dongle, before, while and a little bit after inserting it via USB to enable boot mode but still nothing.

Boot mode should not be a factor with this setup.  Is it possible that you've disabled JTAG during a firmware update?  Have you tried forcing a flash memory erase using Flash Programmer 2?  I recommend testing the XDS110 with a known hardware platform like a TI LaunchPad to get more familiar with the interface and confirm that you can get the hardware to work before applying it to your SonOff board.

I've run a "Forced Mass Erase"

The hardware is properly connected. (Maybe the pin connections are wrong?)

I can't afford to buy other hardware, so any suggestion is accepted.

You should definitely triple-check the pin connections against the resources I've provided, as they are difficult to confirm in an image.  Sky-wire can sometime be detrimental to a debugger connection as it adds additional capacitance to sensitive JTAG lines.  The dbgjtag Connection Diagnostic Utility is available to test the connection, and you should further consider evaluating CCS target configuration (ccxml file) settings.

I connected the XDS110-U to my PC via USB and run a DBGJTAG command and it gives me this error

The XDS110 is not connected to my CC2562P dongle, the debug probe is left hanging. Maybe this causes the problem? 

Also, when I connect the XDS110 to my PC, do I have to connect the dongle too or double power-supply can cause a problem?

With CCDebugger and the CC2531EMK I had to power-supply both

I would suggest you to connect your CC2562P dongle to USB socket to make sure it is well powered and also make sure you well connect XDS110 to CC2562P dongle jtag pins.

Pin 5 of the 14-pin connector is TVRef/VTRef, not actually VCC, and is used by the XDS to detect the absence of target power and set the input level on EMU and JTAG voltage translation devices within the XDS.  Hence it should be tied to the I/O voltage of the target device but does not supply power, this must be accomplished elsewhere (i.e. via USB on the dongle).

Is the RST in the right pin? Also: do I have to connect it to erase the flash of my dongle?

What do you mean? To erase the flash, RST pin of CC2652P is also mandatory to be connected to XDS110 pin.

I meant if the RST is connected to the right pin. Looking at XDS110U Debug Probe User Guide the only reset I see is TRSTn. i don't know if it counts as rst for my SonOff dongle pin layout

nRESET should be pin 15 on XDS110

I've fixed the pin connections.

If I run 'dbgjtag -f @xds110 -S integrity' it gives me SRC_ERR_PATH_ERROR

but If I run 'dbgjtag @xds110cjtag -S integrity' works fine.

To make CJTAG work I connected VTREF and gave Power supply to my dongle via USB.

Yes, your connection is for cJTag and it's good to know it works now.

I tried to erase the dongle.

I held the BOOT button and inserted the dongle without leaving my finger.

Waited 3 seconds before releasing the button.

This is the procedure I used to do to flash the dongle via Flash Programmer 2 ( before it got corrupted )

Now when I connect the XDS110 cJtag to my dongle and do the BOOT procedure I still can't comunicate with.

It says "device not in bootloader mode".

Would be pretty cool to make it work again tho.

Since you are using cJtag, you shouldn't need to enter bootloader mode. You should be able to erase the chip from Flash Programmer 2.

If I use the 2-Pin cJtag option I get this result:

After you connect cJtag/RST pins, make sure your chip is well powered, and start Flash Programmer 2, can Flash Programmer 2 recognize your CC2652P?

The dongle is powered via USB Socket, which makes it well powered.

Flash Programmer  2 recognize the CP210X bridge on the dongle. ( Responsible to convert the UART is USB )

I select XDS110 Class Application, select CP2562P and run the erase with the different options,

Sure.

According to your screenshot, the cJtag seems not detecting CC1652P. For COM6 CC2652P, I suppose you select it manually, right?

COM6 is the XDS110Debug Probe. I select CP2562P inside of it.

The Silicon Labs CP210X is the UART-to-USB bridge on the dongle.

Since I want to flash the dongle via debugger I have to select the XDS110 Class Appl.

It doesn't detect it automatically, once I click on it I have to manually insert the MCU.

Same was in the past while flashing via CP210X

I think there’s still something wrong with your Jtag connection.

Which is strange since when I run the integrity test via dbgjtag it works. ( the cjtag, not jtag )

The connection pin are:

3.3V to Pin 5 ( VTREF )

GND to Pin 8 ( GND )

TMS to Pin 1 ( SWDIO/TMS)

TCK to Pin 11 ( SWCLK / TCK )

RST to Pin 15 ( nReset )

Pin connection are correct; at least following your tips. dbgjtag gives a positive responde.

Since nReset is not available via 20-to-14 Pin converter I had make the connect via 20 Pins. ( After connect the debug probe with the according cable )

Used Male To Male Jumper Cable. 

Glad to hear that you resolved the issue.  Failing to flash the firmware after the first attempt is successful could mean that your firmware is programming the CCFG to disable JTAG.
