Command for direct joining

Hello all,

I'm using Z-Tool for setting up a Zigbee network. I want to know that if there exists any command in Z-Tool that can send a direct join request to a device(not already a part of the network) from my coordinator such that I do not need to do anything on the device that needs to be joined(no button press or anything).

So far I've used ZDO_MGMT_DIRECT_JOIN_REQ for doing so. With this command the device that needs to be joined gets assigned a short address and also comes in the association list of my coordinator but still I could not control it by sending commands. I still need to press the button from the device to be joined. It(device to be joined) then sends ZDO_END_DEVICE_ANNCE_IND and only after that I could control the device.

Prasoon

  • There’s no such MT command for this.

  • Hello Prasoon,

Although the ZC has stored information about the joining device, this device still needs to complete the join process so that it can associate with the network, receive the network key (most important since messages are encrypted), and announce its presence on the network.  If you do not want the user to interact with the device in order for it to join, the joining device could be set up to continuously attempt commissioning until it finds a network to associate with.   The risk here is whether there are any nearby and open Zigbee networks within the same channel which the device could unintentionally join.
