CC2531: RemoTI sample program still functional?

Part Number: CC2531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: REMOTI, CC2530, Z-STACK, CC2538

Hello,

I'm trying to learn how to create/send Zigbee/802.15.4 packets using my CC2531. I started with the sample program Remote Control + Network Processor sample program that came with the RemoTI package, but the RC/RNP communication does not seem to work anymore. I'm not seeing any sort of communication from the Remote Control or the RemoTI Network Processor. Is this expected, or has the RemoTI code been out of date?

If it's too out of date, is there another program I could try? Right now I'm just trying to make a basic program to broadcast Zigbee packets.

  • Hi Thomas,

I assume REMOTI would still operate given the correct dependencies and firmware, however TI has not invested in or further developed this solution since 2014.  My recommendation is that you use Z-Stack 3.0.2 and the ZNP project alongside Z-Tool to evaluate sending generic Zigbee packets.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Does this work even if I just have the CC2531? A lot of the documentation references the CC2538EM for even simple projects SampleLight.

  • Yes, it works with just the CC2531.  Z-Stack 3.0.2 supports several CC253X devices and the CC2538 is another option which has an ARM Cortex M3 core as compared to the CC2530/1 8051 MCU core, among other differences.  The same sample application projects are available for the CC2531 as well.

    Regards,
    Ryan
