changing data rate in cc2500, ez430-rf2500

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2530

Can anyone tell me how to change the data rate for the eZ430-rf2500? *a sample code of some sort*

(For reasons I cannot explain)I want to get a data rate of 40kHz or somewhere along that line, preferably using (but not limited to) ACLK. Is this possible?
Theory-wise, I understand that a lower frequency can extend battery life, as opposed to high frequencies. But too low a freq is kinda useless to do anything isn't it?

If this is not possible, what is the next best bet to change the data rate? Do I include a large CCRO value? Does that even lower the data rate?

Basically, I'm trying to keep power consumption in check. And I'm trying not to use smartRF Studio (I wanna know how it works! Not just get the answer! )
