CC2530: Alternative device with precise time stamp

Part Number: CC2530
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2531, CC2650, CC2520

Hi Team,

The CC2520 is currently out of stocks. Our customer is looking for an alternative device that is capable of providing a timestamp around 1us precision. Are the CC2530, CC2531 and CC2650 suitable for this application?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

I'm not familiar with CC2520, where are you (or customer) seeing the 1us precision in the datasheet?

Note that those other device you've listed (CC2530, CC2531, CC2650) are MCU + radio, so it would require a HW change as well.

I will notify with HW team if they have any recommendations for this.

    Thanks,
    Toby

  • Hi Toby,

Thank you for your response. Please see the feedback of our customer.

In order to reach such precision, we made a few prototype boards.

I'd like to emphasis the following : "The chip should be able to provide timestamps with a precision AROUND the microsecond or lower"
Indeed, we were able to go even lower than that, with the following results :

In the technical literature attached to this email, they use this signal to reach synchronization above the µsecond, which we were able to replicate.

So, the question is: do you have another component which is capable of providing such features?

  • Hi Danilo,

Based the cc253x/4x user guide chapter 22 (https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru191f/swru191f.pdf), with an accuracy of 31.25ns, 1us precision should be achievable with either devices.

    Best regards,
