CC2652PSIP: Zigbee module support and resources for Philips Hue lighting systems and Zigbee Lightlink

Part Number: CC2652PSIP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: Z-STACK, SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK

Hey 2.4GHz team,

I have a customer looking for a Zigbee module for a new lighting project and found the following three options:

  • CC2652RSIP - SimpleLinkTm multiprotocol 2.4-GHz wireless system-in-package module with 352-KB memory
  • New CC2652PSIP - SimpleLinkTm multiprotocol 2.4-GHz wireless system-in-package module with integrated power amplifier
  • New CC2651R3SIPA - SimpleLinkTm multiprotocol 2.4-GHz wireless system-in-package module with integrated antenna

Can you please help to clarify whether these modules support the Philips Hue lighting system and Zigbee Lightlink? Any relevant resources or collateral to begin prototyping with these protocols would be much appreciated!

Best regards,

Matt Calvo

  • Hey Matt,

Any SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK device which supports Z-Stack (those listed included) uses the Zigbee 3.0 Specification which is backwards compatible with legacy Zigbee Home Automation and Zigbee Light Link Specifications.

    • A ZigBee Light Link device can join a centralized ZigBee 3.0 network which does not require key exchange or install codes (BDB_DEFAULT_TC_REQUIRE_KEY_EXCHANGE and BDB_DEFAULT_JOIN_USES_INSTALL_CODE_KEY are FALSE)
    • A ZigBee Home Automation device can join a ZigBee 3.0 centralized network which does not require key exchange (BDB_DEFAULT_TC_REQUIRE_KEY_EXCHANGE is FALSE)
    • A ZigBee 3.0 device can join either a ZigBee Light Link or a ZigBee Home Automation network using classical commissioning (i.e. does not require TCLK updates, so requestNewTrustCenterLinkKey is FALSE)

I've previously verified the joining of Philips Hue lighting products into a Z-Stack coordinator's Zigbee 3.0 network.

  • Thanks for the quick reply and added explanation on this Ryan! :)

I will pass this along to my customer and let them know to reply back on this thread with any follow-up questions they may have.
