TPS551892-Q1: Maximum output current

Part Number: TPS551892-Q1

Tool/software:

Greetings of the day!

What is the maximum output current of this Buck-boost regulator? In the Datasheet it says 8A inductor current limit.
However, we just wanted to confirm it once.

May I know what must be the exact value to consider?
Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Saira,

Thank you for reaching out. May I know what application is used for?

In buck mode(Vin>Vout), maximum output current equals average inductor current, which is 8A typical, 7A minimum.

In boost mode(Vin<Vout), maximum output current depends on minimum input voltage, maximum input current(equals average inductor current, which is 8A typical, 7A minimum), efficiency, maximum output voltage. Ioutmax = Vinmin*7A*EFF/Voutmax.

You can provide your input/output spec and I will calculate a reference value for you.

    Regards

    Mulin

  • Thank you for the reply

This is IC needs to generate 12V from a battery input of 11.1V to 12.6V.
The system load requirement is 3A. Efficiency according to the datasheet is near around 98%. with calculations, the output current comes close to 6.04A.
Seems to be good enough for our application.

Thank you so much for the help. Appreciate it!

  • Hi Saira,

Glad to hear. May I know what kind of battery it is and what is the 12V supplied for? I rarely hear of such voltage rail.

    Regards,

    Mulin

  • Greetings of the day!

It is a lithium-ion battery with nominal voltage of 11.1V and full charge voltage of 12.6V. After regulation, the 12V will be supplied to different sensor and actuators withing the system.
